The exploration of the main themes of history, psychology, sociology and philosophy are interspersed with opportunities for reader reflection and student activities. The inclusion of video discussion and companion website links are particularly useful features and are welcome additions to the text.
Introduction to education Studies by Bartlett and Burton has become a staple text for students of education over recent years. In this latest edition the authors have once again succeeded in providing a rich and detailed book that considers the nature and purpose of education as a discipline whilst always encouraging the reader to reflect upon their own educational biographies and histories. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach the text charts the ranging philosophical, sociological and ideological underpinnings of education and draws usefully upon this breadth of interpretations.
A first rate introduction to contemporary education studies

Bartlett and Burton have written a very accessible text for undergraduates and the companion website offers additional useful information. First year undergraduate students will find this to be a very informative and engaging text that will broaden their understanding of core components of education studies as a subject. They will also find contemporary issues that can prompt useful discussions and debates about the nature and purpose of education.

Provides a clear introduction and overview of principles and theories relating to the study of education. Helpful for students who have not previously studied some of the disciplines which have influenced educational theory such as psychology and sociology as a good overview of the underpinning theories is provided.
