This is a good resource for those wanting to develop knowledge of child mental health issues and services in the UK. The author is clearly passionate about the issues and this comes across. Child mental health problems are summarised, together with the main child development theories and applications with useful related activities. Therapeutic intervention is explained in an accessible and balanced way and communication techniques are outlined with relevant underpinning theory.
Perfectly fitting to our course and an easy read for students new to child and adolescent mental health
This book gives will give an excellent foundation for students who will be commencing child health related degrees, the book is set out clearly and explores concepts in excellent detail. My only concern is that the content will quickly date due to significant ongoing changes to the CAMHS sector, but that just offers more scope for a second, third and fourth edition, all of which I would be interested in reading! Well formatted and well presented, students would benefit from having this as a pre course reader and a as a text book for the duration of the course.

Excellent and accessible text covering an important topic. Just one small criticism is that the authors failed to debate/critique rising numbers of mental health conditions and the effectiveness of contemporary interventions and emotional/resilience intervention programmes
The book provides some useful information about communicating with children, safeguarding, mental health promotion and intervention. However, I was looking for a book with a greater emphasis on CAMHS.
Many more children and young people are being treated in general paediatric areas therefore there is a need to equip children's nurses in these areas with an understanding and the skills to care for these children and young people. This text will start this learning. Easy to read. Good application of theory to practice. Good use of case studies to illustrate theoretical concepts being presented.

An interesting and insightful book suitable for all those working with or training to work with children and young people. The text is accessible and provides a clear overview of mental health issues faced by children and young people in our society. Case studies and thought provoking exercises bring the text to life and encourage practitioners to apply theory to practice in a way that challenges and promotes reflection. I will be recommending this book to my students.
This book covers a wide range of topics related to the mental health and well being of children and young people. It covers MH disorders, theories related to mental health disorders, understanding and promoting mental health, engaging with children and their families and individual and group interventions. Each chapter has an extensive list of references for further reading. An enjoyable and informative read for students new to the field and those of with more experience.
This book provides some good depth and relevance to the areas of psychosocial care, however, other core texts remain the main choice with this book being ideal as supplemental reading
Useful book for Undergraduate children's nurses
This book is a welcome addition the module. It is clear and easy to use, opening up a difficult subject.
This text is valid and currently up to date and covers a good introduction to the subject of CAMHS which will serve as a good reading resource to anyone that is involved with children and young persons irrespective of professional background.
