L. Allen Phelps [B.S. (1970), Central Michigan University (Industrial Education), M.A. (1971), Central Michigan University (Industrial Education and Curriculum), Ph.D. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1976 (Education)] is a Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and the Director of the Center on Education and Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. L. Allen Phelps studies new approaches to improving policy and practice in high schools, career and technical education, special education and transition services, and major initiatives connecting education-and-work. His current work examines restructured high schools that include youth with disabilities, post-school outcomes, and integrating performance accountability and educational improvement strategies. Phelps is the author, editor, and co-author of more than 60 professional articles, nine chapters, and three professional texts. His work has been published by the National Center on Secondary Education and Transition and the National Center for Research in Vocational Education, and his articles have appeared in the Review of Educational Research, Journal of Vocational Education Research, Exceptional Children, as well as other leading professional journals.
