Dr Carmel Halton has worked as a social worker, academic, researcher and educator for over 30 years. Research interests include social work education, professional supervision, reflective practice and creative pedagogies. She has international standing as a research scholar and is a peer reviewer for various scholarly journals. To date she has presented many conference papers and keynote presentations at national and international conferences incl. American Educational Research Association (AERA), American Educational Research Association (AERA), European Educational Research Association Conference (ECER), Educational Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) and European Conference on Social Work Research (ECSWR), National Child Protection and Welfare Conference (UCC). She coauthored ‘Continuing Professional Development in Social Work’ (2013) Halton, C., Powell, F.W. and Scanlon, M. Bristol UK: Policy Press. She has been a recipient of awards for excellence in teaching and research and has been a successful applicant in many scholarly grant applications. More recently, Dr Halton was PI in an IRC-funded research project [2015-2018] entitled A Social and Economic Analysis of the Use of Legal Services [SEALS].
